The Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM) is holding a primary on Saturday to select five candidates to contest the upcoming council elections slated for 29th March.

Secretary of the Barbuda Council, Paul Nedd, said candidates will take part in the primary and the top five will be declared as candidates for the elections. The candidates are McKensie Frank, Wade Burton, Nadia Harris-George, Nico Antonio, Primrose Thomas and newcomer, Melanie Beazer.

Nomination of candidates is slated for 17th March.

Meanwhile, the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party is unlikely to contest the local government elections.

In matters related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nedd is calling for residents of both islands to adhere to the protocols as published by the Ministry pf Health in an effort to reduce the spread of the virus.

“We have to follow the protocols in order to ease the pressure on the health fraternity. I would also suggest that the Central government, the Council and the medical fraternity should convene a meeting specifically to deal with COVID-related issues pertaining to Barbuda,” he stated.
