Halo Foundation, the charitable organization founded by Lady Sandra Williams, has announced the winner of its Corporate Citizen Award for 2020.
A statement from the group names Grant Thornton as the Halo Foundation’s Corporate Citizen Award winner for 2020. Presentation of the award was made last week by the Governor General, Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams at Government House.
The statement said the award was received by the company’s Managing Partner Charles Walwyn. “The award is bestowed each year upon a business entity based in Antigua and Barbuda that has extended charitable assistance to the benefit of those in need,” it explained.
The selection of this award is done by the board of Halo Foundation and is done based on the company outreach work over the past year. Lady Williams explained that Grant Thornton has partnered with Halo Foundation to assist many individuals and other entities during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. “There are some companies which have been making significant contributions to help others in need but who do so outside of the glare of publicity. However, we know of the work of Grant Thornton because much of their work is channelled through Halo Foundation,” she added.
She further explained that the selection is based on the organization’s interaction with and observation of companies and their philanthropic activities nationwide. “Many are deserving. However, the charity can only make a selection of one company each year,” she noted.
Past recipients have been Blue Waters Resort and Spa, Kennedy’s Enterprises and Kennedy’s Hardware.
