Airline Seeks Permission to Operate Barbuda Route

Aircraft belonging to Tropical Ocean Airways

Thursday 22nd November, 2018-Tropic Ocean Airways is expected to complement Barbuda Airways if it receives approval from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) to operate between the two islands.

Tropic Ocean Airways, the operators of seaplanes in Florida, the Bahamas, and another jurisdiction in the Caribbean, has expressed an interest in establishing a presence in Antigua.

During Thursday morning’s post-cabinet press briefing, Information Minister the Hon. Melford Nicholas was asked whether the arrival of Tropic Ccean Airways mean plans for Barbuda Airways were shelved.

A study will be undertaken to determine the areas where the craft would take-off and land in both islands. The Minister of Aviation has been charged by Cabinet to complete the negotiations with ECCAA and to relay all the requirements to the operators. One of the airline’s principals is expected in the country next week.

Minister Nicholas assures there will be a place for both airlines on the route, due to the proposed development plans for the sister isle.
