Thursday 22nd November, 2018- Attorney General and Minister of National Security the Hon. Steadroy Benjamin is satisfied that no law was breached when the former US Air Force base was declared a prison facility for a British national accused of rape.
The 25 year-old policeman was extradited from England to face a charge of rape, which allegedly occurred in 2015. He has since been remanded to the detention centre.
Part of the extradition agreement was that the man not be held at Her Majesty’s Prison, because of the conditions that currently exists there.
The move to house him at the Coolidge facility has drawn strong criticism, but the minister defended the decision in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
