Floating Hospital Sails into St. John’s

Ark of Peace Docked in St. John's

Monday 22nd October, 2018-The Ark of Peace Hospital Ship sailed into Port St. John’s this morning to a festive atmosphere, as it begins a one week medical outreach programme.

The vessel, part of the Chinese Navy fleet, will perform a wide range of surgeries and other medical procedures on more than 2,500 Antiguans and Barbudans who have registered with the Ministry of Health and Mount St. John’s Medical Centre.

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, himself a medical doctor, welcomed the crew aboard the Ark of Peace and expressed confidence that the beneficiaries will receive excellent treatment.

Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, the Hon. Molwyn Joseph expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for “making such a tremendous contribution in an area that is vital to the development of our people.”

He detailed that it is incumbent on Antiguans and Barbudans to take seriously their health and well being.

The Chinese Ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, Wang Xianmin was also on hand to welcome the floating hospital.

According to the Ministry of Health, the medical team aboard the vessel, which is made up of specialist doctors will begin work immediately.
