Thursday 18th June, 2018-A 97.5 million EC dollar Grant from the People’s Republic of China will be used to construct 250 homes in Antigua and Barbuda as part of government’s Urban Renewal Programme.
The agreement was inked by Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Chinese Ambassador Wang Xianmin during a ceremony this morning at the Office of the Prime Minister.
One hundred and fifty houses will be constructed in Booby Alley in the Point, 50 for Barbuda and another 50 will be allocated in Bolans.
According to Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne, the houses in Booby Alley will be made available to residents there and also to squatters in the Perry Bay area who will be moved overtime from their current location.
The project it was revealed will mainly comprise of rental properties, which will be heavily subsidized. For Booby Alley residents, credit will be given for their existing homes. The prime minister this morning underscored the importance of renewing the housing stock in Antigua and Barbuda in the face of climate change.
Chinese Ambassador H.E Wang Xianmin says the signing of the agreement is further proof of the strong relations that exist between his country and Antigua and Barbuda.
