Thursday 18th June, 2018-Director of Education, Clare Browne has pledged to thoroughly investigate an incident that took place at a public school, where teachers were allegedly stripped searched by the police.
News this morning revealed the police were called in to All Saints Secondary School last Thursday, after a teacher reported she had lost more than $ 4000 from her bag.
Several teachers have claimed that they were allegedly stripped search and made to cough while they stoop, on instructions from the police.
Director Clare Browne says he was unaware of what transpired and has since requested a full account of what he describes as a “troubling matter”.
Mr. Browne is reiterating that no stone will be left unturned as he demands answers.
According to the director of education, the Acting Commissioner of Police, Atlee Rodney was contacted, alerting him to last week’s incident. Mr. Browne stated that the acting commissioner has no knowledge of the incident, but has promised to launch an investigation.
Director Browne also spoke with officials of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers and has given the assurance that the incident will be thoroughly investigated.
