Friday 5th October, 2018 –The Minister of Health has reported that 356 cataract removals were undertaken by the visiting team of Chinese doctors who returned to China last week.
According to a statement, many patients who had no vision before were able to see again following their operations, under the “Bright Journey” Project.
Officials estimate that the procedures would have cost the government more than EC $ 1.5 million.
The medical team before departing, also donated machines, equipment and supplies as an additional gift, valued at $1.5 million dollars.
Meantime, the Chinese Military Hospital Vessel “Peace Ark” will arrive in Antigua on 22 October 2018.
The doctors on board are scheduled to perform more than 350 operations over two weeks. The operations will be at no cost to patients, but those who are interested must seek more information from Mount St. John’s Medical Centre.
