Friday 5th October, 2018 –The search continues for Calvin ‘Burga’ James of Perry Bay, after a wanted bulletin was issued for his immediate arrest.

James is on the run after allegedly murdering two women this morning. A third person, a man, Lawrence James is fighting for his life in hospital, after he was critically injured during the incident in Donovans, sometime around 7 a.m.

Calvin James, who is reported to be heavily armed and is considered extremely dangerous, reportedly shot his niece, his nephew and his nephew’s girlfriend, when he entered the home they were occupying. One woman died at the crime scene and the other succumbed at hospital.

Allegations are James was asking for his sister and when he was told she wasn’t there, he opened fire on those that were present, before fleeing in a stolen vehicle.

The exact reason for his actions remain unclear, but there are unconfirmed reports that it may have been over property and dates back at least three years.

At the time of the shooting, the suspect was on bail, on charges of attempted murder.

In 2015, Calvin James was charged with three counts of attempted murder. He had attacked his sister, tazing her with a stun gun and beating her with a piece of wood. In the same 2015 incident, he inflicted several chops on his niece with a cutlass. He escaped before the police arrived, but was later traced to an abandoned house in Hatton. In their attempt to apprehend him, Calvin James fired a flare gun at them. He was subsequently arrested and charged.

While he was remanded to prison by the Magistrates’ Court, a High Court Judge later granted him bail.

Members of the public are warned not to make any attempts to approach Calvin ‘Burga’ James if or when seen, but instead contact the Rapid Response Unit at 764-2348 or 464-3938 or to call 911.

An appeal was also made for him to surrender himself at any police station with his attorney, or any family member.
