Thursday 13th September, 2018-The Director of the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) says he intends to submit a comprehensive report on the state of re-construction and rehabilitation in Barbuda.
The report according to Government’s Chief of Staff, Ambassador Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst, is expected to include the amounts collected and spent and the number of buildings that have been re-roofed and readied for habitation.
The European Union (EU) will reportedly contribute five million Euros towards rehabilitation of 150 structures. That sum will also enable NODS to acquire the galvanize shredder to reduce the bent and twisted sheets of corrugated metal that have been discarded in many open fields and along forest streets, that could become missiles in the event of high winds.
The US$1 million contributed by India will be applied to rehabilitation of the lone hospital, and the purchase of new apparatus to replace the damaged equipment.
A report on the re-organization of NODS will also be submitted before the end of September.
