Friday 11th May, 2018 -There continues to be a shortage of oranges on the local market despite Cabinet approving importation of the citrus from Florida.

The shortage is as a result of the destruction of Dominica’s orange groves by Hurricane Maria last year.

Agricultural experts have advised it will take another year before new plants will be able to produce citrus for export. To that end, the importation of oranges from Florida was allowed from Florida and St. Lucia.

But despite giving the green light approximately four weeks ago, Cabinet noted this week that no action was taken.

Cabinet Spokesperson is Information Minister Melford Nicholas.
