Friday 6th April, 2018 – Mount St. John’s Medical Centre will be re-named in honour of former Prime Minister Sir Lester Bryant Bird.
A date for the name change is yet to be announced, but Cabinet has indicated that a ceremony will be held on the hospital grounds on Michael’s Mount.
Already the announcement has drawn reaction from the main Opposition United Progressive Party who is against the decision made for the country’s premier medical institution to bear the name of the national hero and former prime minister.
However, the cabinet spokesperson has justified the decision taken on Thursday.
Sir Lester Bird retired from active politics this year after an illustrious career that saw him serve the country in ministerial capacities and as prime minister.
Mr. Bird now serves as a Senior Advisor to the Cabinet with Ministerial Rank.
