Wednesday 4th April, 2018 – Approximately eight months after his burnt out body was discovered in a minivan in Yeptons, a funeral will be held on Wednesday for Soldier Ashon Martin.

DNA tests conducted overseas lead to a positive identification of the Bendals resident. A misspelt name on a document reportedly led to a further delay in the issuance of a death certificate. This lead to an outcry from family members who expressed dissatisfaction at the slow pace of the process.

In the early morning hours of August 11th, 2017, the body of the 26 year-old member of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force was discovered in the front seat of a Noah Van by police who were on patrol in the area.

Though not confirmed, reports are that Martin was murdered. To date no arrests have been made.

Investigations remain ongoing.

Ashon Martin is expected to be accorded a military funeral, since he was an active member of the ABDF.
