Tuesday 27th March, 2018 – The Chairman of the Electoral Commission says a National Identification Card can alleviate the last minute rush that is experienced at their headquarters in the days and hours leading up to General Elections.

Speaking at a post-election press conference on Monday, Nathaniel ‘Paddy’ James said that a National I.D may be the best solution. However, existing laws do not make provision for a government issued card to be used in the electoral process.

ABEC has spoken at length about the issuance of replacement cards following growing requests from those who had misplaced the document.

James is appealing to citizens and residents to properly secure their voter I.Ds, highlighting their importance. He also addressed whether a careful review was conducted in the issuance of temporary cards.
