Wednesday 21st February, 2018 – Prime Minister Gaston Browne is proposing that the Antigua State College be removed from under the Public Service in order to give the institution more independence.
He made the recommendation on Tuesday while fielding questions from students and faculty at Antigua State College.
Prime Minister Browne’s pronouncement followed a concern expressed by a faculty member that despite the efforts being made to advance the Antigua State College to university level, educators there were still part of the general teaching service as opposed to their regional counterparts, whose salaries also reflect differently to those of primary and secondary school teachers.
The head of government has revealed that the idea of removing the State College from under the Public Service was discussed at Cabinet.
It is not clear when the process will begin.
