Thursday 1st February, 2018 – Director of the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS), Phimore Mullin is threatening to publish a list of persons on the sister isle that have received generators.
The threat comes as the head of the local disaster management agency expresses anger over comments made implicating his office in illegal activity. He said what is being circulated is that many of the generators intended for the sister isle were not delivered there, accusations he finds disturbing.
Tension is rising between NODS and the Barbuda Council. On Tuesday, there was a standoff between council members and Defense Force personnel, after at least five council members and several residents reportedly showed up to take control of the Barbuda Council office. Though they were told that the defense force was in charge, those who showed up reportedly refused to relent, demanding the building be handed over to them.
Commenting on Tuesday’s incident, Philmore Mullin says the action of the group appears to be deliberate.
The NODS director has indicated that if such actions persist, then the agency will have to put measures in place to protect its staff working in Barbuda.
